Delicious is yummy
The downside is that i have become very used to folders. I like them. They are familiar. Firefox's Foxmarks is great as it allows the integration on Bookmarks from various PC's and retains the familiar folder system - however it can only be used on Firefox instead of Explorer, so untill the rest of the world is converted Delicious it is.
Sutherland Shire libraries delicious site is great! Well done.
Technorati looked pretty cool - not a huge fan of their search functions, but brought up some interesting stuff.
Library thing!! YAYAY! Already have a library thing site and am trying to put all my books on it ..........
Youtube
I love the pure trash that you can find as well as the good stuff.
This is a short film the library made a while ago which has been on Youtube for a while.
Other stuff....I'd love to start filming our pizza pages sessions (with parental permission of course), author talks, database training, reference resources all with visual help from your friendly librarian.

Wiki Watching
Possible applications would include
- a wiki by children's services staff relating to common storytime themes
- or a wiki for HSC English relating to area of study - with examples of what is in the curriculum and possible readinga that reflect the different themes (actually i have started one of these - but it is currently on hiatus due to the area of study changing this year)
I admit I advise students not use Wikipedia for thesir assignments as if they have to double check a source they don't have time to use it. Online Encyclopeadia Brittanica is a great alternative if the library subscribes. I loved the article from info today suggesting academics reclaim Wikipedia - its obviously not going anywhere, and i admit I use it for up to date information at time or as a jumping off point.
For inhouse wikis, sharepoint is an excellent package. It allows a library (or council) to have a wiki to share information, start groups, see the calendar of colleagues, start a blog (and more!) all with the security of it being internal to the organisation.
Back on board
Enough of the boasting. RSS feeds.
I started using bloglines after a State Lib. rep came out to our library to teach NSW.net databases. Excellent! Now I thought now I can monitor everything from one site!
Whilst searching for a house last year I was able to use an RSS feed to monitor properties of interest. I can check my favourite SMH blogs and see what others are ranting about.
In libraryland I can check out what is happening in alt teen services or find out whats the buzz is about different technologies. This was great while I was still studying, but i find recently that I don't log in as much.
As yet I haven't integrated bloglines into my daily routine. My laptop crashed a few months ago and as a result I've weened myself off spending quite so much time on the net. The great thing about bloglines however, is that I don't need to check it regularly, by checking once every few weeks I can find out if there are any recent posts without having to trawl the Internet for hours.

Pretty photo by my friend
What I like about Flickr. I love trawling through other peoples photos, seeing the world through their eyes and then pinching all of their ideas!! For libraries its a great way to share display ideas as well as show our communities what great things we do.
What I don't like about Flickr is that it isn't cooperating with me at the moment and is giving me techno stress. Its ability to upload photos isn't as user friendly as competitors, say..Facebook, where the uploading is fast and efficient. Facebook also allows larger files, which can be annoying when viewing a bohemoth, but beats the two step process that flickr sometimes requires to get files down to size. (but Ok, Facebook is a multifacted social networking site rather than being Photo specific and thats sometimes not what is required)
If I try uploading the photo via the Blooger tool, the photo comes up as a link. The Blog this button on flickr is configured to my personal one.....hmm quandry. Ok, draft this while I think.
Alright I am back at the exact moment of my departure ( I feel a bit like the Doctor). I've temporarily configured my personal account to this blog.
Anyway, I did it! Yay me!! This is a photo by a friend of mine, I find the reeds very calming, I hope you appreciate.

Blog number.........
This isn't my first time professionally either. But I wouldn't say I'm great at it yet, although they say practice makes perfect. I try and keep a blog for young adults, I hope they read it. At the very least it helps me organise my thoughts.
now if only I could organise my desk
